Latest CD "reflected"

Does not fit into any category:

The full clarinet sound of Helmut Hödl on his debut album "reflected", clarinetist Helmut Hödl moves between serious and popular music, accompanied by pianist Yu-Hsuan Lin. The clarinet is celebrated here with its rich palette of sounds - from classical to jazz, cross-over to improvisation.

His own musical journey has resulted in a double album on which the boundaries between classical repertoire works and new compositions disappear. The listener simply finds himself "in between". Such classics of the clarinet literature as Brahms' F minor Sonata op. 120 No. 1 and Weber's Grand Duo Concertant op. 48 have accompanied Helmut Hödl since his student days. As a soloist and teacher, his view of the works is constantly changing.

They also inspire him to create arrangements and his own compositions, which can be heard on the second CD. The 2nd movement from the above mentioned Brahms sonata becomes a surprising listening experience in "brahms-reflected", Bach's cello suites creep through the "Prelude for JSB" and Aaron Copland's concerto is honoured in "Hommage to Aaron".

Pigeonholing is out of place on this double album - what counts is the sound!
